Here are some pics of Nubby and her stitches. The vet also cleaned up those absesses she got from the wounds she got from that fight with Wendy so those are the other wounds you see.
Yup... Nubby has her very own e mail address. If you'd like to e mail Nubby just to say hi.. here is her address: Nubbyrat@aol.com.
ALSO...
Nubby is very good at giving advice as well. If you have a question about rats she'd be happy to answer your question and if she can't answer it she will direct you to someone or somewhere you can get the answer.
Nubby is also wonderful about giving personal non-rat related advice. Do you have something bothering you and you need an ear to hear you out.. Nubby would be happy to listen. Do you have a personal problem you'd just like to get off your chest... Nubby would be happy to listen and give advice if that is what you are seeking or just want someone to listen.
So please feel free to e mail Nubby about anything. She will write you back, usually within a week of getting your e mail.
Nubby will never tell ANYONE what you have told her, except maybe her best friend Sheila, Sheila is an older rat, older than Nubby and she is very wise so Nubby may seek help from her friend Sheila. Other than that, Nubby would never tell a soul.
Remember... Nubbyrat@aol.com

Nubby is the most amazing rat in the world. What is so remarkable about Nubby??? Well, she only has 2 legs- two back legs.
I'm not 100% sure if she was born this way or is a result of her being injured as a baby. We'll just never know.
I first notice Nubby had no front legs just about when she was 2 weeks. And wow, when i saw her i was just blown away.
Nubby is a 'Special Needs' rat but really she isn't, there really isn't a lot of 'special needs' about her but I'll tell you this, she is SPECIAL. She can do just about anything a 4 legged rat can do with the exception of running on a wheel.
She developed a pretty clever way of eating. She sometimes pushes a morsel of food against the floor.. the floor holds the food in place and she nibbles on it. And sometimes she'll just pick the food up and hold it in her mouth as she eats.
She does have some problems with her cage mates stealing her food right from her mouth. So a lot of the times I'll hold the food for her or I'll feed her away from the others.
She does need some help with grooming but not to much. Sometimes she has a hard time cleaning her nose so i clean her nose for her once or twice a day. I also wipe down her neck area a few times a week.
Nubby is a miracle and a survivor. Firstly... i have no idea how she nursed when she was a baby because rats like many other animals need their front paws to stimulate the area around momma's nipples to promote milk production. I really don't know how she did this. But, she did have a wonderful momma- Mary. Mary was one of the most precious rats i ever had.
Secondly.. when she was about 3-4 weeks she got loose in my bedroom and she vanished for a week. I looked everywhere for her but couldn't find her and i have so much stuff in my room, it's like a maze for a rat, it's a maze for myself lol.
I had free range boys a the time and i worried that they would hurt her. I worried how she'd get food and water.
At the end of the week being missing i pretty much thought she was gone, that she hadn't survived but and i was heart broken BUT... one night i was sitting on my bedroom floor working on a project when i saw something out of the corner of my eye, under my little dresser night stand. When i turned my gaze that way... there was this little miracle standing there looking right into my eyes.
When i saw her i froze for i didn't want her to dart off and yes although she has no front legs she can move pretty fast. So i froze... and than i slowly put my hand on the floor.
I thought for sure at this point she'd take off but nope, she simply walked right to my hand and let me pick her up.
You don't know the relief i felt. I was so happy to have found my precious little miracle.
And thirdly.. you'll never guess what this darling accomplished in her life... she had a litter of babies.
I won't get into the story of how she got preggers but there was a little accident with a friends son when they visited my house.
I prayed she wouldn't get pregnant because how would she care for her babies with no front legs? I prayed and prayed and prayed.
So finally it was about 24 days later and she wasn't showing... so i thought YES... she isn't pregnant.
But later that day i heard these little squeaks coming from her cage and guess what i found? 3 healthy little pinkies.
And would you believe she cared for those babies all by her self. And they turned out to be 3 healthy babies- Tuesday, Ruby and Pickett.
Her babies are all grown now and Nubby is 2 years old. She turned two on March 12. She is an elderly rat but she is very healthy.
As i write this she is at the vet having a tumor removed. Soon as she is home i will update this litle column.
The above is Nubby's story. And this blog is dedicated to her, her life.
There is lots to come here at "Nubby's Wonderful World" So stay tuned and check back often.
